From Lived Experience to Lasting Impact.

Looking back on my journey, I can see how every challenge, experience, and turning point in my life has led me to where I am today. I know firsthand how one person can plant a seed and create a positive impact that lasts a lifetime.
Having experienced the foster care system, homelessness, and many of the same challenges that young people in care face today, I understand firsthand how important it is to have someone who believes in you, listens to you, and advocates alongside you. Those experiences didn't just shape my story—they shaped my purpose.
That's why being a part of Smile Forward is so meaningful to me. My lived experience is the driving force behind my passion to create lasting change for youth in care. Combined with my professional background, this has led me to this moment, where I have the opportunity to make an impact not only in the lives of individual young people but also in improving the systems designed to support them.
I started my career in social work as a peer support specialist on a mobile response team focused on crisis de-escalation with local law enforcement. I later worked as a Care Coordinator in child welfare prevention, where I gained a deeper understanding of the strengths and challenges within the child welfare system. After earning my Master of Social Work and pursuing my path toward becoming a licensed therapist, I met Dr. Angela Oliver-Burgess and learned about Smile Forward. I immediately knew this was where I was meant to be.
I believe every young person deserves to be seen for their strengths, empowered to find their voice, and supported as they build the future they envision for themselves. That belief guides every role I hold, both personally and professionally. Through advocacy, mentorship, and leadership opportunities, I hope to remind youth that their past does not define their potential and that their voice has the power to create change.
For me, this work is more than a career—it is a calling. Every conversation, every connection, and every opportunity to walk alongside a young person is a chance to turn lived experience into lasting impact. My story may have brought me here, but it is the stories of the youth I serve that continue to inspire me every day.
With gratitude,
